Anyone in the world of advertising knows business ebbs and flows, and predicting the future isn’t as easy as following the lunar cycle. So, we’ll catch you up on 2018 while we catch our breath!
January started with a bang when Meg Snyder joined our team as a fulltime illustrator. Meg brings a history of great character design to dash and jumped right in developing the look to some of our favorite pieces this year, including an animation for the 2018 League of Legends College Championship and YMCA of the Triangle’s Power of Us video.
Summer brought a nice reward for the dash team as we took home “best in show” at the triangle’s American Advertising Awards for our integrated brand identity campaign we created for New Kind’s Hopscotch Design Festival. We also took home gold in the internet commercial category for our work with McKinney on their Donate Your Color animation for Sherwin-Williams and silver for the dash idents Oliver Sin helped us create. The best news came from our friends at HMH Agency when they told us our work for Thomas Built Buses had won silver at the national addy awards! We wrapped up the summer heat with a very cool shoot. Camp + King needed to build Remax a killer event opener that would portray realtors in superhero-like fashion.
Our solve was a mixture of photography and graphic elements, separated in space, to create a slow-motion parallax effect. The result? A happy client, elated agency, and a fantastic portfolio piece for dash. Make sure to check out some of the behind the scene shots from our shoot.
Our growth continued this past fall as we added Dylan Carrow to our full time roster. Dylan is a wonderfully versatile animator, specializing in motion-graphics and design. He immediately contributed to the dash portfolio with a dynamic piece for Lenovo’s DaaS offering and Tidelift’s new hero video, highlighting the power of open source.
The end of the year brought our three year anniversary and a moment of reflection. We’re thrilled with what we’ve created, but we’re ecstatic about where we are going! We’ll be adding our seventh dashtronaut this January and moving into a new space to accommodate the growth. We’re also investing in a batch of in-house creative content: everything from tutorials, a mini video series on building a studio, and creative explorations, all part of our commitment to self-growth and helping our industry.
We may not be able to control the tides for 2019, but we’re looking forward to whatever comes our way. Happy New Year, friends!
